Interns of the Business Design & Optimization Group are exceptional undergraduate and graduate students will a passion for project management and consulting. Each year a new cohort of students join the team and help to make a positive impact on the university and its constituents.

Brian Spencer

Program: Finance & English

Undergraduate Lead Intern

Brian is a junior in the MSB from Princeton Junction, New Jersey. He transferred to Georgetown after one semester at the University of Richmond and has really enjoyed his time at Georgetown since. In the MSB, He is majoring in Finance and minoring in English. He is a Peer Ambassador for the MSB and a member of GUSIF. In his spare time, he enjoys working out, watching soccer, traveling, and exploring the DC area. He is a huge fan of the Premier League and follows Manchester United. He plans on studying abroad in Barcelona. After college, he will be working in investment banking in New York City.

Box Wu

Program: Economics

Undergraduate Lead Intern

Box Wu is a senior from New York City, New York. He is majoring in Economics with minors in Computer Science and Statistics. Box is currently a leader in Georgetown ESCAPE, where he leads overnight retreats for first-year students. He is also a mentor at YTT, a nonprofit organization based in New York City, where he helps underprivileged and first-generation high school students through the college application process. Box is also involved in the music scenes at Georgetown. He played for the Georgetown Orchestra, Nomadic Theatre, and Mask and Bauble. He is also the bassist for Georgetown Cabaret. In the future, Box hopes to work in the field of development and environmental economics. In his free time, Box loves jamming with friends, running along the Potomac River, and watching soccer. He is a big Tottenham fan.

Sanjay Gospodinov

Program: Finance, Economics, and Government

Undergraduate Intern

Sanjay is a senior in the McDonough School of Business majoring in Finance and minoring in Economics and Government. On-campus, he is the CEO of Georgetown Student Capital Partners, Georgetown’s undergraduate private equity and venture capital organization, where he oversees the operations of the club, its analysts, and its work with PE and VC client firms. He is also on the board of the Georgetown Bipartisan Coalition where he is the Director of the Consensus, GBC’s media platform. There he hosts the Consensus podcast, radio show, and is the editor-in-chief of its publication. This summer, Sanjay will be working as a summer associate at BCG in their DC office. Outside of work, you can find him listening to podcasts, debating politics, and losing money on short-term options.

Carter Brown

Program: Master’s in Finance

Graduate Intern

Carter Brown is a second year graduate student in the Masters of Science in Finance Program. He is originally from Louisiana and graduated from LSU in 2019. He has previous experience in investment banking working with public sector clients. In addition to his work as an intern with the Business Design and Optimization Group, he also works as a trader within the treasuries group in the Macroeconomic Analysis Fund, a student run organization where he also serves as Risk Chairman, and oversees investment risk management for the fund. Post-graduation, he hopes to either return to the investment banking field or enter the consulting field. In his free time he enjoys reading, golfing, exploring the Georgetown and DC areas, and cheering on LSU and Georgetown in football and basketball.

Mitali Shah

Program: Data Science and Analytics

Graduate Intern

Mitali is a Master’s student in the Data Science and Analytics program. In addition to her current degree, she has a Master’s in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Virginia Tech and has finished her undergraduate in Mechanical Engineering. She is a mentor as well as a teaching assistant for a few courses in the Data Science and Analytics program. Previously, Mitali has worked as a research assistant at Virginia Tech and helped develop a scheduling algorithm. In the future, she wants to work as a Data Scientist or Data Analyst in the consulting or technology sector. Apart from work and studies, Mitali likes to explore different cuisines, cooking, hiking, occasional trivia contests, and escape rooms.

Katherine Lisecky

Program: Economics, Business Studies, Entrepreneurship

Undergraduate Intern

Katherine is a junior majoring in Economics and minoring in Business Studies and Entrepreneurship. She is currently the Corporate Sponsorship Chair for HoyaTHON, a club that raises money for children with cancer, in which she forms partnerships with companies in the greater Georgetown area. Previously, she has interned with Vantage Risk, in which she helped create their ESG policy and models for corporate volunteer events. She is also an intern at Northwestern Mutual as a part of their financial planning team, as she hopes to enter either the finance or consulting world after college. Outside of work, you can find Katherine trying new restaurants in DC, playing the piano/guitar, and staying active.

Yudi Chen

Program: Data Science and Analytics

Graduate Intern

Yudi is a first-year graduate student in the Data Science and Analytics program. Originally from Beijing, China, she finished her undergraduate education at Boston University with a major in Economics and a minor in Business Administration. Yudi has previous experience in multiple areas of consulting. In addition to being a part of the BDOG intern team, she also assists research at CSET, hoping to use her strength in data analytics to push for understanding of the development in tech-commercialization. Post-graduation, Yudi hopes to build a career as a data scientist supporting consulting services or business intelligence engineer. In her free time, Yudi enjoys visiting museums, spending time with friends, and cuddling with her dog. Working at BDOG is an exciting opportunity to see how she could help provide insights and support consulting projects by incorporating data analytics.

Ian Gresenz

Program: Economics

Undergraduate Intern

Ian is a sophomore in the College from McLean, Virginia. He is majoring in Economics, with an interest in game theory and statistics. Ian developed an interest in project management through a year-long senior research project in high school, where he helped to design and create an energy-efficient tiny house built from renewable resources. Outside of academics, he enjoys traveling and has been to destinations across the United States and Europe. In his free time, Ian likes to stay active by playing basketball, golfing, and exploring local parks. He also enjoys gaming, reading One Piece, and solving the Rubik’s cube – which he is hoping to soon be able to solve in less than 10 seconds.

Dylan Long

Program: Global Business and French

Undergraduate Intern

Dylan is a junior in the SFS majoring in Global Business with a minor in French from Newport Beach, California. He currently serves as the COO of HoyAlytics, Georgetown’s undergraduate data analytics and consulting organization, where he previously served as a Project Manager and the VP of Marketing. In his current role, he manages the club’s semesterly events, overall strategy, and day-to-day operations. He recently spent six weeks abroad in Paris, where he took courses in international business and politics conducted in French. After college, Dylan hopes to enter a position in the consulting field that incorporates his interests in international relations and data analysis. In his free time, he loves learning new languages, going to the beach, hiking, and attending concerts.

Jianqiao is a second-year graduate student in Data Science and Analytics program. He comes from China, finishing his undergraduate study in Sichuan University with a major in Polymer Science and Engineering and a minor in Finance. Jianqiao worked as a teaching assistant in GU for several times with a great willingness to help others. He wants to apply his data science skills in the consulting or technology industry to help the company make smart business decisions. Outside school, he loves playing table tennis, poker, guitar and watching NBA, and he is a super fan of Lebron James.
